A Year in the Life of Mrs. Maclean

Happy 1 Year Anniversary to ME!

Today Ian and I are celebrating our 1 year anniversary of marriage and I am feeling beyond grateful and blessed. No marriage is a walk in the park, but I feel like ours is as close to it (while still being interesting) as we could get.

What I've Learned About Myself in Marriage:

I enjoy the quiet. I don't mean quiet time without Ian, I mean that I enjoy the quiet of our little family. Since being married I've slowly posted on social media less and less and I genuinely LOVE it.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy staying connected to my community and enjoying time with friends, but I feel the most recharged just laughing and chatting at home with Ian. He's my person and I am so glad to be able to enjoy our time together in a way that leaves me fulfilled.

What Has Changed in Marriage:

Ian has become my family. That is probably the biggest change I've noticed because Ian and I had lived together for a while before getting married so our routine was fairly set. Now though, Ian is my primary family and the #1 person I consider when making decisions. Our family is small, but we love it and cannot wait to watch it grow over the years.

I still thoroughly enjoy my time with the family I had before marriage, but now I've created my own family (that I got to 100% choose myself). We make decisions on our finances, life milestones, plans and next steps together and it feels great to have a life partner in everything.

What I've Loved About Being Married:

Calling Ian my husband. That seems surface-level but I think it's so much deeper than it comes off. Ian has become my family and I love that I get to tell anyone and everyone that we are a family. I take a lot of pride in the marriage we've created.

Ian and I have put a lot of time into creating a healthy marriage. We've prioritized learning how to effectively communicate and we have a deep mutual respect for each other. These things lend to the relationship we've been able to cultivate and I hope that we can continue to share our positive experience with others in our lives.

What's Next:

You will just have to wait and see... We've been working diligently to plan and have some exciting things (we hope) that we'll be able to start annoucing very soon. Time will tell, but I believe that there are a lot of great new things coming!
