Guess what... it's not too late to set your 2020 goals! I get it, sometimes goal setting can get overwhelming. Where do you start? How do you know the goals will actually get done? What do you even set goals for? So many questions. I like to start with SMART goals. This is a concept that was introduced to me about a year ago by my coach and I LIVE for it now...
What are SMART Goals?
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Realistic
T - Time Measured
Goals should be specific and you should avoid general statements when setting goals. Instead of "I want to lose weight", try something like, "I want to workout 5X per week" or "I want to lose 10% body fat".
This means that there is a way to make the goal quantifiable so you could tell someone you are actually 50% complete, or 60% complete or whatever. For weight loss goals, this means actually putting a number on the weight loss. For reading, it's putting a number on how many books you'll read.
Can you attain your goal? When setting goals make sure they're something that you can reasonably attain. For example, going to the moon by the end of the year is not an attainable goal, unless you're already working for NASA.
Ask yourself if your goal is realistic. If your goal is too unrealistic and you can't achieve it, it'll likely do more harm to your psyche than good in your life overall.
Goals should have an end date. Make sure the end date is clear and realistic. If you want to lose weight, when do you want to lose that weight by? How much weight are you trying to lose each month? Week? Trying to lose 20 pounds in a month is not realistic. 1-2 pounds per week is much more realistic.
