Cool-Down Summer Snack Guide
Snacks = LIFE.
If you love snacks, we have A LOT in common. I've never been one to eat one or two big meals and nothing in between... I'm a HUGE snacker. In the summer, snacking looks a bit different because it's much hotter and I like to look for snacks that will help me cool day on a particularly hot day. Here are some of my faves:
Trader Joe's Fruit Frenzy Popsicles
These are the perfect level of sweet and tasty and they're still fairly healthy, all things considered. It's definitely better than a bowl of sugary ice cream and they're vegan and lactose free!
Berries
Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and the like are all a great snack to cool down and they're healthy! Bonus, they're super high in antioxidants
Apples
Fun fact, apples have an enzyme that works to break down gallstones. Too many gallstones can lead to digestive and liver problems. So, if you're drinking by the pool this summer and want to cool down, an apple is a great, liver-health promoting cool-down snack.
Seaweed Snacks
They're salty and light making them a great alternative to potato chips. Chips tend to make me feel bloated and heavy, but I don't usually get that way when eating seaweed snacks.
Tomatoes
Hear me out on this one... Chop some heirloom tomatoes and top with salt, it's FABULOUS. And the water content will help keep you cool and hydrated.
The Cool-Down Snack Cheat-Sheet
Do. Eat foods with high water content. This will help to keep you hydrated.
Do. Eat foods low in sodium. Sodium can be dehydrating.
Do. Eat foods high in micronutrients. If you're sweating more, you're likely sweating out the good stuff too, so focus on replacing those vitamins.
