Maximizing Your Macros: Fats
Counting your macros and not sure how to get the most out of it? This month I'll be posting all about how to maximizing your macros. Next up... Fats
Maximizing your macros is a great way to get the most nutritional value and stay within your goals. Understanding how and what to eat to maximize your macros will help you to fuel your body. Understanding how to maximize my fats has been one of the more challenging ones for me.
I used to feel uncomfortable with the idea of consuming fats, even healthy fats. I'd get non-Fat options whenever they were available and had a difficult time believing that fats could be healthy. That was, until I learned that fats help our bodies absorb vitamins. Without healthy fats in our diet, it's much more difficult for our bodies to get the full advantages of the vitamins and micronutrients we eat.
How do you maximize your fats? Eat healthy fats. There are healthy and unhealthy fats and the more you can focus on healthy fats, the more you'll be maximizing them. Unhealthy fats include unhealthy oils like vegetable oil and animal fat, like fatty pork. Healthy fats come from nuts, seeds, healthy oils and plants. Some examples include:
Avocados
Walnuts
Pumpkin Seeds
Coconut Oil
Whole Eggs
Fish (like Salmon)
Do not take this as me directing you to avoid certain foods, this is merely an explanation of good ways to maximize the macronutrient fat. If you love potato chips, eat them (in moderation)! Depriving yourself could be just as harmful. Instead of depriving yourself, considering eating it in moderation and also consuming foods that will be more efficient in maximizing your fats.
