Beating the Travel Flu: Staying Healthy on Vacation

It's no secret, I like to travel. Unfortunately, travel can mean a compromised immune system. Why? It's simple really... The stress traveling puts on your body, combined with germs and food that your body isn't normally used to leads to an immune system on the fritz. The last thing anyone wants is to be on vacation and get sick, so here are some tips and tricks for staying healthy on vacation...

Drink PLENTY of Water

When I say plenty, I mean at least, but ideally more than you drink at home. Water will aid in digestion and keep your body flushing out toxins that you may encounter while traveling.

Get Your Daily Veggies & Fruits

This could be as simple as bringing along a greens and a reds powder to drink on your trip. As long as you're getting in at least 3 servings of veggies and 2 servings of fruits. The micronutrients will help to keep your immune system working properly.

Sleep!

I know it's easy to let time get away from you and keep the merriment going all night long, but sleep is SO important when you're traveling. If you can, get at least 8 hours a night and throw in a nap if you can.

Bring some Vitamins

A daily multivitamin is great. I also like to bring some Airborne Chewables, they taste great and are killer at knocking out any cold I feel coming on. I usually take them if I feel the slightest sinus pressure or the smallest tickle in my throat. 9 times out of 10 they kick the cold before it starts.

Workout

I know you probably don't want to and working out on your vacation sounds like the opposite of a vacation, but it doesn't have to be much. Take 20-30 minutes a day to get a REALLY good sweat in and you'll be good. This strengthens the heart and helps you sweat out any toxins. Checkout my workouts for the road blog here.
